A’s and Angels are facing off

Big games this week. The Angels are taking on the Oakland A’s at home this week, and it is going to be BIG! Each game is worth a full game in the standings. We’re 1/2 game back of the A’s and with a strong outing by the always solid Ervin Santana and some good timely hits by the boys we should be 1/2 game up by bedtime.
2nd inning–Just watched Figgy turn on the burners and make a sweet grab in center field. He robbed Payton of a sure double. Amazing athletic talent in that rather diminutive body! Nice a 1–2–3 inning for Santana!

More later…

Great info– the Angels have the best record in the month of July, going 19-6 and with a win tonight we’ll have the best month in franchise history 20-6.

Big game yesterday, no trade today

Well it looks like the Angels are taking their chances with the youngsters and standing pat.  No deals as of the 10 AM deadline (PST).

For the first time, I don’t think that the Angels need a bat as badly as they thought they did.  The kids are getting it done.  July the boys went 19-6!!!  Some hot hitting by Napoli, Rivera and Vlad got it done.  Combined with some very solid pitching and there is a contender in Anaheim, er Los Angeles.

Loved the game last night, but have to wonder if something was wrong with Schilling.  Not to say we didn’t do a great job hammering him in the 3rd, but come on this is Curt Schilling.

What a huge 3rd inning

Well, I have to say I love my daughter even more than the usual huge amount tonight. I had to work a fundraiser tonight and miss the game and she Tivo’d the game for me and what a game it was!!!
I just watched 3 Angels hit homers over the green monster to nail Curt Schilling!?!!! Amazing. Vlad’s shot was just a frickin’ monster shot!! It started with Orlando Cabrera and then Vlad’s shot. A couple of batters later and Alex Rivera knocked his own homer over the wall! Wow, what a huge inning. The Angels have 9 hits in 3 innings. That is just not done against the great Curt Schilling.

Angels are looking good tonight- after 3 they led 6-1 and eventually score 4 more runs to win the series agains the Boston Red Sox.

Way to go Halos!

Tough loss today

It looked like another great outing by Jered Weaver, but a three run lead proved to be just short of what the Angels needed to win again in Boston. Scot Shields let two on in the 8th and Frankie Rodriguez didn’t get the job done when Scioscia handed him the ball. Big bummer.Hopefully they’ll just let it go and play another solid game with no errors and hit as well as today. They’ve really been hitting well and pulling out some good wins this month. A win tomorrow would be great and give the boys a great series win!
Go Angels!!!

Slip, slidin’ away…

Well, I’ve been absorbed the last few days in the incredible athletic competition- the Tour de France. Incredible and just frickin’ amazing what these men put themselves through…
In any case, it ends Sunday and I’ll be a full-time Angel fan again. ; )

The boys have been slippin’ in performance, falling into their bad habit of playing up or down to their competition. The last two losses to Kansas City have just been tremendously embarrrassing. The Angels could hardly play worse than this. The opening game of the series was horrific with ugly errors and sloppy play and base running. I just have to be like Scarlett O’Hara and think about it another day– just too distressing.

They’re going to have to clean it up and play sharply to stay in contention in the weak West. We’ll see how it goes- game is at 4:10.

Sweep!

Angels continue to crush- the win today completed a sweep of Joe Maddon’s team! I love July!!! What other team is 11-1 in the month of July? John Lackey is killing the opposition and is just dominant! Weaver has been sublime (the tendonitis is just a blip), and the guys are hitting. What more can a fan ask for???
Woo hoo! I hate that Weaver is sidelined even for one scheduled outing, but the big picture is waaaay more important than one game.

Loved Vlad’s Grand Slam on top of his 1,000th RBI– great moment. Wish I could have been there.

Looking forward to another good series. Long live July!!!

Great game, great outcome

Big congratulations go out to Orlando Cabrera! His 63 games in a row of getting on base is phenomenal and should be recognized as an outstanding achievement in this era of baseball. He wasn’t able to get on tonight, but he did the Angels and fans of the game proud! Way to go!!!
The game was excellent. John Lackey was impeccable. He threw so well tonight. It just doesn’t get much better than that. Excellent performance and good time to have it come together.

Nice 2 run- home run by Robb Quinlan to give the Angels the early lead. I especially liked seeing the boys put together an error free game with few runners left on base.

They need to finish strongly before the All-Star Break. This is a good start. The last week has been good and like I’ve said before there is hopefulness as they settle down and hit/field well.

I’m looking forward to another dominant performance by young Jered Weaver. He’s been so good, all we need is another good outing with some hitting to back him up. Without brother Jeff to distract the team, it should be good.

Go halos!

The kid has power

Mike Napoli just nailed his 11th home run in the 6th inning. That is the most home runs for a rookie this year. WOW!!
This is a crazy game with 6 home runs so far. The score is 4-5 with Oakland ahead with no outs. they’re pitching around Rivera a little (and after 2 HR in a game that is what should be done). Well they gave him something to hit- but Swisher pulled it down to make a good play. Morales hit a nice one in the gapper and a new pitcher is coming aboard. More later. Let’s hope this is a big inning for the Halos.

Tied in the 4th – nope Angels leading 3-2 now

Okay, is it me or does someone need to tell Garret that even if you hit a crappy infield shot, you should still run full speed to first just in case someone misplays the ball????? Duh.
On a better note, another home run this inning! Vlad hit one a few minutes ago, and now Juan Rivera has hit his second of the game! Wow.
